Medication management for women

Make empowered decisions about medication and supplements.

Let’s work together to decide if medication or nutraceuticals can help you feel your best. Specializing in pregnancy, postpartum, lactation, and more.

Medication can be a wonderful tool, but it’s not one-size-fits-all.

Taking medication to manage your mental health can feel like a big step. With a holistic look at your health, we’ll create a personalized plan that takes into account your history, hormones, and goals.

I offer different levels of medication management care.

  • Perhaps you’re already on medication started by another physician but aren’t noticing symptoms improve or are preparing for pregnancy, birth, or lactation and want to be sure your medication is the best fit for both you and your baby.

I provide one-time consultations as a way to understand your history, discuss your options, and provide recommendations on medication and supplements moving forward.

  • I want to help you reach a level of stability and symptom improvement that feels sustainable for you. In ongoing management, we’ll start by identifying the best medications or supplements for you. We’ll discuss things like cost, side effects, desired results, and your previous history. From there, we’ll meet on a regular basis (usually every 2 weeks to start) to check in on how you’re feeling, what you’re noticing, and what changes may need to be made.

If you are pregnant or in the postpartum period, we’ll also check in at the significant hormonal milestones during this time including the first 2 weeks, weaning from breastfeeding, return of menstruation, and the return to work.

I understand if you feel some apprehension about exploring medication options. If we decide meds may be a good fit for you, I take a conservative approach with treatment. My expertise in integrative psychiatry also allows us to choose from non-pharmaceutical options as well. I’ll keep you informed about what to expect and when to expect it: we’ll talk through why each medication or supplement is selected and what exactly we are trying to target with each one.

I’m also here to help explore finding more affordable medications, how to manage side effects, and other ways to make medication fit your goals & your life.

Frequently asked questions

  • Our initial consultation will help us come up with a treatment plan. That may or may not include renewing prior prescriptions. There is an art to deprescribing medications, so If I recommend a medication change I’ll provide you with expert guidance through that process.

It’s important to understand that Coral Psychiatry is unable to provide controlled substance prescriptions to tele-psych only patients in AZ, CA, FL, IL, MA and MN.

  • During each visit we will discuss the interval for your next follow-up. If you’re really struggling or we have made significant adjustments to your medication or supplement regimen I generally see patients in 2-4 weeks. If you’re doing well and it's clinically appropriate, we can stretch out that interval for up to three months. We will also take your hormonal status into account like where you are in an IVF cycle or your breastfeeding journey, for example. These reproductive events as associated with both biological and psychological shifts that often require additional counseling and care.

  • Speak up! We’ll be checking in on a regular basis to discuss how you’re feeling and what you’re noticing, and I encourage you to be as open as possible with me. If needed, we’ll explore other options that may offer fewer side effects. I want you to feel your best.

  • Yes, absolutely. Medication isn’t the right answer for everyone, and I believe in taking a conservative approach. If you’re just beginning to explore the possibility of medication to support your mental health, we’ll start by determining if it’s the right tool for you. If we decide that it’s not, we’ll look at psychotherapy or other holistic interventions, like supplements or lifestyle changes, to help you begin to feel better.
