Perinatal Mental Health
-
Perinatal mental health refers to a woman's emotional and psychological wellbeing during pregnancy and in the year following childbirth. Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) are the most common complication of pregnancy, affecting up to 20% of pregnant and postpartum women — yet they remain significantly underdiagnosed and undertreated.
At Coral Psychiatry, we specialize in perinatal psychiatry: diagnosing and treating mood and anxiety disorders that arise during pregnancy, postpartum, fertility treatment, and pregnancy loss. Dr. Jennifer Okwerekwu offers individualized, evidence-based care that is safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
-
We provide perinatal psychiatric care for women who are currently pregnant and experiencing depression, anxiety, OCD, or other mood symptoms; postpartum and struggling with mood or anxiety; planning to conceive while managing a pre-existing psychiatric condition; going through fertility treatment (IVF, IUI) and experiencing emotional distress; or recovering from pregnancy loss or birth trauma.

Coral Psychiatry offers telehealth perinatal psychiatry in New York, Illinois, Florida, Minnesota, and Massachusetts. In-network with Aetna and CDPHP (NY). New patients seen within 1–2 weeks.
